Abstract works on canvas

I first started making these pieces for my MA show at Central Saint Martins in 2008, and continued for a few years after based out of a studio in Hackney. They are made using an odd process; with charcoal on primed canvas which is then varnished and overpainted with oils. It's similar to how back and white photos used to be hand coloured.
Whilst they appear wholly different to my figurative drawings, the themes are very similar. Although I refer to them as abstract, they are not really abstract of figurative, rather attempts to represent something unknown. So it appears as if they are a representation (or copy) of something - we just can't identify what that is.
